FYI - THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
This document contains information that you will need for Reunion 2009.
Please file it away and refer to it when necessary.

1.   The registration fee for Reunion 2009 is $130.00. This amount covers all events except the Girl Guide Reunion and the Banquet. We know that this cost has risen since the last reunion but the costs involved in holding a reunion of this scope have escalated considerably. Registration deadline is May 15th. This date was chosen to allow our suppliers for shirts, bags, etc. to deliver our order in a timely fashion. Between May 16th and July 15th, the registration fee will be $165.00. We cannot accept registrations after July 15th, except in very exceptional circumstances. We cannot guarantee Banquet tickets for those who register after July 15th.

Registration is not complete until registration fees are received.

Mail your registration form and fee to:   BSC Reunion 2009

4.   Wheelchair accessibility: We have explored this issue with the administration of BFC and have been told that we cannot erect a portable wheelchair ramp because of school board policies and insurance issues. We wish we could do more to assist you but we have exhausted all possibilities. All of the venues for other events are readily accessible. If you need it, we can have some assistants at BFC to help you get into the school. We will also have a registration desk at the Cathedral from 5 – 6:30 p.m. before the service especially for those who cannot access BFC. We will do everything we possibly can to address your needs during the Reunion.

5.   There will be fleece vests with an appropriate embroidered logo for sale during the Reunion at a reasonable price. If you think you might be interested in purchasing a vest, please indicate your interest by ticking “yes” or “no” on the registration form. Please note that this is not an order – just an expression of interest. We will also be selling surplus shirts and bags in case you would like to buy one for a sister or friend who could not attend. There will be limited availability so shop early! There will also be “Spencer Girl” note cards for sale at $10.00 per package of 10.

6.   Wanted: Accommodations for some Spencerians who would like to attend but have nowhere to stay. If you have a room or two (or even a bed or two) to offer a "CFA" please contact Elizabeth at 709-722-4546. Likewise, if you are looking for a place to stay. You can contact Elizabeth and she will try to match you up.

7.   Important notice: Rental cars are in very short supply here during the summer. If you are planning to rent a vehicle of any kind, BOOK NOW!! All major rent-a-car chains are represented in the province.

8.   If you are planning to do some "toodling around" either before or after the Reunion, call the Newfoundland Labrador tourist office at 1-800-563-6353 and request a package of tourist literature.

9.   Do you want to plan a tour anywhere in the province during your stay and want some help. We recommend MAXXIM Vacations. You can call them at 1-800-567-6666. There are, of course, other tour companies that specialize in tours in the St. John’s area.

10.   Are you 70+ years of age? Most of us are. Do you remember Miss Cherrington? Most of us do. Then you are eligible to apply for the Grand Party Bus Tour of Spencer Sites being organized by Ann Abraham. The party bus will pick you up at a designated meeting place and bring you back there two or three hours later. There will be a fee, of course. Space is limited so call Ann at 1-709-722-8261 or email Barbara at clancy@nl.rogers.com ASAP and she’ll pass it on to Ann.

11.   What else is happening in and around the area during late July and early August?

The Government House Garden Party will be held on Wednesday, July 29th, so after you register you can don your party dress and fancy hat and pop around the corner and mingle with His Honour and his other guests.
The Annual Royal St. John’s Regatta is planned for Wednesday, August 5 – or the first fine day thereafter!
If you live or have ever lived on Forest Road, a "Forest Road Reunion" is being planned for the same weekend as our Reunion. You may be able to take in some of their events during your spare time. If you are interested, you can contact Bill Martin (1-709-576-1595 or l_martin@nl.rogers.com ) or Bruce Tilley (1-368-0498 or mud@nl.rogers.com ).
Tea at the Crypt of the Anglican Cathedral is always a lovely experience. Reservations are recommended for large groups so be sure to call ahead.
Be sure to check the What’s Happening magazine when you get here for other events going on in and around the St. John’s area. This magazine is free and available in hotels and other places.

12.   We are hoping to have a Merchants’ Mall set up at BFC during registration on Tuesday and Wednesday only. Any Spencerians craftspeople and artisans or craftspeople and artisans with a Spencer connection are welcome to come and set up a booth to sell their work. If you fit this description or know of anyone who does, please contact Debbie Dawe at 1-709-738-3046 or deborah.dawe@nl.rogers.com for details.

So -- that’s it from here for now. If you have any questions about items and events not covered in this FYI sheet, please contact Elizabeth or Barbara. Contact numbers are already here in this document.

On a non-reunion note, BSCAA scholarship applications and criteria for 2009 will be available very soon. If you need an application for a daughter, granddaughter, niece, or even for yourself, please contact Barbara Parsons Clancy at 1-709-739-0981 or email clancy@nl.rogers.com. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2009.

See you in July!!
