the SPENCER LETTER
Vol. 1, No. 3 Winter 1998
- the newsletter for "old" Spencerians -
12 Kent Place, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada A1B 1V5
I guess I was much too ambitious in thinking I could get out a third issue in late summer. I've
been so busy for the past six months that it just hasn't been possible - My Apologies!
This issue - in response to your comments & requests - contains the list of all the names I've
been able to turn up so far. You are listed by class according to year of graduation. The names
with asterisks are the ones we don't have addresses for. The codes after the names of later
years mean: BC = Bishops College; IX (for example) = Grade Nine. Some names may be in the
wrong class and years may be mixed up - especially after 1959. If you have sent me a card or
letter and your name does not appear on the list of if there's an error, please let me know;
I'm not infallible - just dedicated! Please send all the names & addresses you have. I'm
much indebted to my son Bruce for all his work in keying in and organizing the lists and for
setting up the web page. I couldn't have done it alone.
UPDATE Re T-Shirts: The next issue will have an order form. I'll have to have the payments up front as
the investment for an order of 100 runs over $1000.00! They'll sell for under $20.00 (Can.)
Re Donations: A huge THANK YOU to all of you who have sent donations! The first ones that came in
I re-imbursed myself for out-of-pocket expenses. After that the money is going toward production
of this letter. We now have nearly $500.00 in the bank and Diane (Downer) Driscoll has agreed to
act as treasurer, which I very much appreciate.
Re Committee: Early in 1998 I plan to call a meeting of Spencerians to a: form the Bishop Spencer
College Alumnae Association and b: form a Spencer 2000 reunion committee. There is, I think,
enough interest now to do both. Watch for ad in the Evening Telegram.
Re Ottawa: Never mind parliament! The BSC Alumnae Association - Ottawa Branch held a dinner in
early December; twenty-eight attended and I hear it was a wonderful night. Congratulations to
the Organizers and thank you Sally (Winter) LeFeuvre.
While Ottawa was meeting, Ottawa resident Jean (Guy) Weerasinghe was visiting St. John's; she came
over for coffee with a friend and we spent a very pleasant evening together. Jean has been very
helpful and I do thank her for all her input and enthusiasm. She keyed in Issues 1 & 2 to put on
the Web page and continues to come up with great ideas.
Re Spencer Letter: It will save money if I put future Letters on the web page in their entirety.
I will continue to post Letters to anyone who would like to have a copy. But if you have access
